The Estate of Sorel Etrog
The “hinges” style, as well as other idioms by Etrog, was used not only for sculpture but also for works in other media such as painting. While “links” was most commonly used for portraiture, Etrog utilized the mechanical language of the hinges for the representation of landscapes. The result, in the case of Macrowaves, is one that fuses the natural and the mechanical to create an eerie disquieting rendition of a seascape.
